Quartz Ang (洪白夜, Ang5 Bêh8ia7 [peng'im], Hóng Báiyè [pinyin]) is a fourth year from New Garden City. Between his busy schedule of eating endangered plants in the greenhouses and building chemical bombs, he has very little time for his schoolwork.

Quartz's first and foremost goal in any situation, life included, was and had always been breaking stuff. From the moment he spawned in this world, he dedicated himself to the art of blowing things up. Unfortunately, his brother and best friend did not like when he blew up their stuff, so he had to learn to do it in "controlled environments" or something. His alchemical acuity shocked and stunned everyone who glanced at his abysmal grades until they realized his only goal was explosions, and by all the gods watching over him, he would do whatever it took to make explosions happen.
By the time secondary rolled around, he realized the other two-thirds of his squad were pulling grades he wasn't matching, and if he didn't start doing his homework instead of blowing things up, he might not be able to follow them to tertiary. In a move that only surprised people who didn't interact with him, he easily pulled his grades near the top of his class, and then he went back to blowing things up. Also his cousin joined a gang or something.
Tertiary went smoothly enough. The ease with which he cleared his math and alchemy classes led a few professors to suggest alchemical engineering as a career path, which somehow sounded fun to him. When Carnelian mentioned applying to Del Sol, he didn't bother looking up the school before bunking up with their alchemy department, and thus, only upon properly stepping foot upon campus did he discover the joys of breaking into the greenhouses and eating the endangered plants when Yiu harassed him to get things for her. (Wasn't like it hurt when he booted up the botany forums to ask which plants would kill him, and some guy trying to find vegetables his sister might eat replied to every post.)
